Great dentists with a personal approach to teeth

I visited Dental Clinics Haarlem in April for severe pain around my lower left wisdom tooth, which turned out to be a significant bacterial infection. At my intake appointment, rather than treating the infection with antibiotics, the dentist referred me directly for surgical extraction. As part of the treatment plan, extraction of my healthy upper left wisdom tooth was also scheduled.

At the surgical appointment four days later, the oral surgeon was unable to remove the lower wisdom tooth at all — the infection was so severe that extra dose of anaesthesia was insufficient to proceed. The healthy upper tooth was extracted. The surgeon then prescribed antibiotics, which resolved my pain completely and permanently. The lower wisdom tooth has never needed to be removed.
This means I had a healthy tooth extracted unnecessarily, as part of a treatment plan that was never completed and should arguably never have been recommended in the first place. The infection that prevented surgery was clearly already present at my intake appointment and was not identified.

When I raised this concern with the clinic and requested reimbursement of the cost for the unnecessary extraction, the clinic declined responsibility and maintained that the original treatment advice was appropriate.

I want to be fair: the administrative staff were professional throughout, and the clinic did respond to my correspondence. However, the failure to correctly assess the infection at intake, combined with the unwillingness to take responsibility for the consequences, has left me deeply disappointed. I would encourage anyone visiting this clinic with an acute dental infection to seek a second opinion before agreeing to any surgical referral.

After my 1st consultation with the orthodontic dentist i was informed that the treatment would entail another appointment for the scans and another to come and collect the retainers. The scans were done however by a different person to the initial dentist. During this consultation no explanation was offered to let me know what was going on nor was the person assisting me able to answer my questions on the treatment. She informed me that the initial dentist would be in touch with me in the coming days to explain further steps and to answer my questions. I waited and never received any communication from the clinic since. I reached out telephonically after a month (02 March 22) to follow up and was told that the assistant will call me back the following day once she’s spoken to the dentist. To no avail. I called back again numerous times following up and got the same story that I’ll be called back. Which never happened. Long short, after calling 5 times and sending an email I am now (9 March 2022) told to set another appointment- it is not clear what this appointment is for- whether to collect the retainers or if anything else is needed. The assistant on the phone seemed impatient and dismissive to my questions.
The clinic was recommended to me by a trusted friend but to be honest (except for the experience with Dr Amin-he’s professional ) the rest of my experience with the orthodontics team has been cold and unprofessional. Really disappointing.
